FAQ

Do menopausal supplements really work?

It depends. There is no cut and dried answer and it’s also important to note that there is no one size fits all. Certainly, there are several ingredients in menopausal supplements overall that are effective in scientific testing. By the same token, some ingredients have been associated with risks for some women. To reiterate, not everything on offer suits every woman.

Look for high-quality products that contain no fillers or artificial colourants. Furthermore, always check the label and expiry date. In addition, choosing formulations that have been proven in clinical trials can give you confidence that they will do what they say they will.

Do menopause supplements help with weight loss?

Generally, menopause supplements are designed to help with hormonal balance and diminish the characteristic symptoms of perimenopause/menopause and post-menopause. These include hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, low libido, itchiness, fatigue, sleep disruption and more. Weight loss supplements are usually specifically formulated for the reduction of weight. However, in some cases, part of gaining weight can be to do with hormonal imbalance. Therefore, there is the possibility a menopause supplement may help in a small way in certain circumstances. In most cases, there might be many factors involved in weight loss (such as addressing emotional factors, stress, lack of sleep, nutrition, etc) that require separate solutions.

Can menopause supplements prevent fatigue?

Changes in estrogen and progesterone at perimenopause/menopause affect the regulation of cellular energy in the body. Hence, extreme tiredness or fatigue can be one of the hallmarks of perimenopause. In fact, research has shown there is even a link between menopause and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). While most women aren’t affected to that extent the fatigue is very real. And if night sweats and disrupted sleep are thrown into the mix it creates a perfect storm for tiredness. Menopause supplements can help prevent or manage fatigue by keeping hormones balanced.

Other good habits to help include exercise, acupuncture and meditation. As well as not having caffeine or alcohol later in the day or eating three to four hours before bed ensuring the digestive system’s at rest when you are.

Do natural menopause treatments really work?

Absolutely! Of course, there will be some natural menopause treatments that may not work. In other cases, they may only be effective due to a placebo effect. This is why it’s so important to look for products that have been proven in both in vivo and in vitro clinical trials. To clarify, this means they have been tested in the laboratory as well as on humans. It’s also essential that the menopause supplement uses the same amount of ingredients that were used in scientific testing. But as with anything to do with human biology – whether that be prescription medication or natural supplement – not everything will work for everybody. We are all bio individuals and there is no one size fits all.

What ingredients does MenoMe® use in its menopause supplements?

In both 40+ and 55+, MenoMe® uses EstroG-100™, a blend of three herbal root extracts. The trio includes a sage-like herb (Phlomus Umbrosa), a form of milkweed (Cynanchum Wilfordii) and Angelica (Angelica Gigas Nakai).

EstroG-100™ was discovered by a Korean doctor, Dr Jae Kim. Dr Kim tested over 70 herbs both together and alone before he found that the combination of these three delivered the best results.

In addition, 55+ contains Enzogenol®, marine magnesium and vitamin D3. Enzogenol® is extracted from New Zealand pine bark and provides antioxidant support for healthy bones, brain and heart all of which become vulnerable post-menopause. Magnesium and vitamin D also help with bone strength as well as mood and sleep. Together, they provide support for the degenerative diseases that become a higher risk to women in their post-menopause years.

Should you choose 40+ or 55+?

We understand that the needs of women in perimenopause are distinct from those who are in post-menopause.

That’s why MenoMe® have created different supplements best suited to each of the two stages of menopause. For those women in perimenopause, we recommend 40+ (named because on average, women enter perimenopause at around age 40, though of course each person is different).

55+ is designed for women in post-menopause (on average, women enter post-menopause around 52-55 years of age).

Both 40+ and 55+ contain the same quality of our superhero ingredient EstroG-100™. This means they provide exactly the same level of hormone-balancing properties to help alleviate many of the symptoms of menopause.

The difference between the two, is that 55+ also contains Enzogenol® which is extracted from New Zealand pine bark. This all-natural ingredient provides superior antioxidant support for healthy bones, brain and heart all of which become super vulnerable post-menopause. Magnesium and vitamin D are also added to 55+ to help with moods and sleep. In other words, 55+ is an all-in-one supplement that supports you through many of the well-known symptoms of menopause (beginning during perimenopause and continuing into post-menopause). However, it also provides antioxidant support for the degenerative diseases that become a higher risk to women in their post-menopause years.

You may of course choose to stay on 40+ in post-menopause or start 55+ earlier in perimenopause. The choice is yours and will depend on your budget and other supplements you may be taking. Or, you may want extra support before entering post-menopause. Either way, we have you covered at MenoMe®.

Post-menopause

This is the time when menstruation is well and truly over, the ovaries have stopped producing high levels of sex hormones and for many ladies, perimenopause symptoms subside.

Estrogen has protective qualities and the diminished levels mean organs such as your brain, heart and bones become more vulnerable. It’s also a key lubricant so your lips may become drier, your joints less supple and your vagina might be drier. In addition, your thyroid, digestion, insulin, cortisol and weight may alter.

At this juncture, a woman might experience an increase in the signs of reduced estrogen but she should have a decrease of perimenopause symptoms. That said, some women will experience symptoms like hot flushes for years or even the rest of their lives.

Perimenopause

Peri = ‘near’

Most females begin to experience the symptoms of perimenopause in their mid-forties. Your progesterone levels decline from your mid-30s but it’s generally from around 40 that the rest of your sex hormones begin to follow suit.

Perimenopause is a different experience for every woman and some women may barely notice it. The first indicators are usually changes to the monthly cycle. This means that for some ladies, this can be accompanied by things like sore breasts, mood swings, weight gain around the belly, and fatigue as time goes on.

For those with symptoms it can be a challenging time physically, mentally and emotionally.

Importantly, perimenopause lasts – on average – four to 10 years. The transition is usually a gradual process and many women enter perimenopause without realising.
